On Sunday, November 5th, 2006 supporters of Massie Heritage Center gathered in Calhoun Square at 8:00 pm to celebrate the
150th Anniversary of Georgia's oldest public school. Participants enjoyed a wonderful meal under the stars and the party tent as they heard proclamations and praise for the Massie Heritage Center and its educational contributions to Savannah's history. Speakers included Savannah - Chatham County's Instructional Director for Social Studies, Mrs. Candy Lowe; Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, Mrs. Dottie Overstreet;
Mayor Otis Johnson,
County Commission Chairman,
Mr. Pete Liakakis;
Savannah - Chatham County Board of Education
President, Mr. Hugh Golson; and
Friends of Massie Committee President,
Mrs. Emma Adler.
