History Lives in Savannah’s Cemeteries
Grades 4 –12
History comes to life in one of Savannah’s historic cemeteries, the resting places of many notable historic figures. In Colonial Park Cemetery, students will learn about the first Savannahians and their contributions to our city, state, and nation. Laurel Grove North Cemetery is the final resting place of many important people from the antebellum and Civil War periods. Bonaventure Cemetery picks up the story at this point and continues it until the present day. Laurel Grove South chronicles the history of Savannah’s African American community, from slavery to such leaders of the Civil Rights Movement as Wesley W. Law.
