Breaking the Bonds: African Americans in Savannah History
Adaptable to all grade levels
African Americans have played important roles in Savannah history from its earliest days. Originally coming to Savannah in bondage, Savannah’s African Americans managed to preserve their native culture while making many important contributions to the culture of a new land. During this program, students will learn about slavery in Savannah, the African American artisans who built the city’s world-famous National Landmark Historic District, early pioneers in African American public education, and others.
